Sorin Coliban was born in Bucharest and studied and graduated as a singer and singer teacher from the renowned Bucharest Academy of Music in 1995, after that ,while already working, he studied 6 years with Georgeta Balan in Bucharest. He attended also masterclasses headed by Ileana Cotrubas in 1995 and 2012 and pefectioned his Rossini style and technique in the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro in 20...01.

Since the very beginning of his career in 1996, he has been singing at such prestigious places such as the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Opera Bastille and Palais Garnier in Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet, Monte Carlo Opera, Staatsoper in Munich, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Staatsoper and Volksoper in Vienna, War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, Santiago de Chile, Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv and Rossini Festival in Pesaro but also in Athen(Megaro Mousikis),Amsterdam(Concertgebouw),Luzern Festival , St. Gallen , Bergen ( Norway) ,Jerusalem,Bucharest,Lyon,Basel,Tokyo etc.
Important rolles debuts were Don Magnifico and Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Guglielmo(Cosi fan tutte), Don Giovanni ( Dn Giovanni),Fiesco(Simon Boccanegra), Filippo II (Don Carlo),Procida( Les vespres siciliens), Lord Sidney (Il Viaggio a Reims),Colline ( La Boheme),Raimondo ( Lucia di Lammermoor),Mose ( Mose by Rossini), Holländer ( Der fliegende Holländer) and many more.

Since the season 2009/2010, Sorin Coliban belongs to the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera, where he performs among others Colline(La Boheme),Monterone (Rigoletto), Grand Inquisiteur (Don Carlos), Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Capulet (Roméo et Juliette), Fra Melitone (La forza del destino), Fasolt (Das Rheingold), Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro). Recently he made his successful role debuts at the Vienna State Opera as Landgraf Hermann (Tannhäuser) ,as Alexandr Petrovic Gorjancikov (Janacek’s From the House of the Dead) , Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) and Raimondo( Lucia di Lammermoor).

Sorin Coliban was also a member of the ensemble of the Volksoper Wien between 2004 and 2009 where he sung in parts such as Commendatore (Don Giovanni), Zuniga (Carmen), Bartolo (Die Hochzeit des Figaro), Friedrich Engel (Der Evangelimann), Konrad Nachtigall (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), Timur (Turandot/NP), Eremit (Der Freischütz/NP), Bauer (Die Kluge/NP), Tommaso (Tiefland/NP) and Basilio (Der Barbier von Sevilla/NP).

Recently, he made his debut at the Bregenz Festival in Austria, where he had a great success as Ramfis in Verdi’s Aida and the Archbishop in Szymanowski’s King Roger(has been released as DVD with Unitel-Classica ).He also sang Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni at the Bruckner Festspiele in Linz and Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) at the Mozart Festival La Coruna in Spain.

Together with Angela Gheorghiu, Roberto Alagna and Ruggero Raimondi he participated in the Tosca-movie with EMI - classics and " Euripide Productions".

Among his future plans there are Gremin ( Eugen Onegin) role debut at the Vienna State Opera , his debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele 2013 as Fafner in Das Rheingold and Siegfried and  Don Basilio (Il Barbiere die Siviglia) at the Opéra de Lausanne in 2014.

Coliban is also a demanded performer in Lieder and Oratorio repertoire such as Verdi Requiem ( in Lyon and Bucharest) ,The 9th Symphony of Beethoven, Pater Profundus in the 8th Symphony of Mahler ( in Dresden and Bucharest) , Matthäus and Johannes Passions by Bach ( Tel Aviv and Bucharest),Elias ( Eiias by F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy).Not far as  May 2012 , he made his Vienna Musikverein debut with a Lieder Recital together with pianist Kathleen Kelly.Other recital venues where in Paris , Baden  and Bucharest.

Sorin Coliban performed under conductors such as Franz Welser-Möst,Bernard Haitink, Antonio Pappano,Alberto Zedda,Zubin Mehta, Rafael Fruebeck de Burgos, Kent Nagano, Pinchas Steinberg, Sir Mark Elder,Richard Bonynge, Valery Gergiev ,Seiji Ozawa, Bertrand de Billy,Louis Langree, Kirill Petrenko, Daniele Gatti ,James Conlon,Sir Charles Mackerras. He has worked with stage directors such as Sven Eric Bechtolf,Jérôme Savary,Ruggero Raimondi,Christine Mielitz,Renaud Doucet, Alfredo Arias, Robert Carsen, Jonathan Miller, Luc Bondy, Nicolas Joel ,Benoit Jaquot and Graziella Sciutti.
